YOUTUBE

I have never youtubed any thing I mean I have never used Youtube just beacause of the notion that anything and everything can be youtubed. I dont want the kids thinking that it was okay to use youtude. After having watched the videos that others have posted in their blogs it is getting my attention.I would not recommend any kid using it even for fun.
My positive comment about it is Youtube could be used as a link for a library tour, for instructions that need step by step visuals, and also for demonstrations like small crafts etc.

CRAIGSLIST

I went to this web 2.0 site and I found it interesting.I heard about it but never tried it. The site is pretty well organised from locations throughout the world and this particular feature amazed me. Then I went to the detailed subject aprt where there are several categories that will help users find what they want in just a click. If someone like me don't have a clue of what to look for you can just browse through the subject areas and find anything. It also displays a search field on the left margin of the page if you precisely know what you want.I also liked the featureof the calender where one can pick the date and the list of all the advertisements during that period shows.I tried to find some guitar classes and succeded in doing so but most of the advertisement didnot give the price. I think that is a draw back since you found what you are looking for but you still have to call the instructor for the fee and other details which is not reducing the list as in yellow pages.I think that is a drawback.

This table has been created using Zoho writer and published through Zoho. Regardles to say I have created an account with Zoho and created the document. I felt it more convinient as you don't need to search in the menu options as to where to go to do a formatting change etc. Zoho writer have all the options as icons on the top and i think it is more user friendly to people who are allergic to computers.I particularly liked the "subscript and the superscript" options which I dont know in microsoft word. I created the table only till the exercises I completed.

My doc can be found in Zoho at http://writer.zoho.com/index.do?docId=jpl-learning-2.0

PBwiki ---------Sandbox

It was so much fun doing the exercise. I added my blog to the favorites blog and I also had the previlage to add few other comments to the other pages. As it was fun I wanted to attempt the challenge or the optional part. I was only partially successful as I could create a new page but alas I couldn't link it. I would have been proud of myself if I could do it all by myself.

I think this wiki concept would be a great idea for a family to share any family events or calender or pictures etc etc etc. It could be a good idea for a group on a project.

My View on WIKIs

For until a few weeks ago my first sorce and I assumed the easiest source to find basic informaion was WIKIPEDIA. But it was just 2weeks ago I came to know that the information in the wikipedia can be edited by anyone and everyone. Fortunately I used it for some basic information and nothing serious.I think I would continue using this but only for starter and some general information only.
Having library wikis is a useful as long as only authorized people can edit it just like the St. Joseph County Public Library system. It would also be useful for booktalks. It would also be useful for group oriented activities. If a library has an accountable website then having a wiki beats the purpose.
The advantage of not needing to learn a language or software to create and edit in a wiki is an awesome feature.

Into the new world of librarianship

The perspective "Into the new world of librarianship" seems to be more reasonable in my view although moving away from icebergs is true to some extent.

The reason I am not convinced with moving away from icebergs is

Not all the customers have computers &
Not all of them are as feasable with the technology &
we dont have all the time and the resources to train them all.(getting people to use the self check is a next to impossible task!!!)

Coming to why I favor the other perspective(Into the new world of librarianship)

Being physically there makes the customers feel a sense of comfort(as they know where to go rather than getting lost in the huge unknown world of internet and going in circles).
Also it is like helping each and everyone of the customers to the very last one.
I think we are in the transition phase where we should start embracing the new technology as we still cling to the traditional old way.

Technorati Exercise # 14

This was time consuming as my computer didn't want to cooperate with me. I was having a hard time as the site was not loading and if it did was very slow.I managed to get this info.

1,413 blogs about learning 2.0

374 results for "learning 2.0" posts

Blog directory web2.0 was the only term I found and I didn't get the count.

The interesting thing i found browsing through the top 100 blogs is that there are awards for blogging. I found that there are "the Lifetime Achievement" and "Best Group Blog awards ".

I am not so interested in claiming my blog.

Delicious learning exercise #13

As I first checked the delicious site it didn't make any sense to me. I figured that it is a bookmarking site. I was looking for a field which could help pull up the site on the net and then help bookmark it.I tried looking for faqs. I then watched the video posted and thats when everything hooked up.I think Delicious is a very helpful site.
The socializing part is amazing especially since they are all public and makes the tasks for the others easier.
The internet movie database is probably the busiest site ever as it is bookmarked by
31885 people. This seems to fascinate as one keeps exploring into the site.
I don't want to create an account with them as for one thing I am tired of creating all these accounta and remembering their userid and passwords.Secondly I don't have that many websites I regularly visit to bookmark. If I want to find new sites for no matter what now I know where to go . DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adding Jaxcat Gadget exercise #12

The process of how to add the gadget is very interesting. But how much it would be useful
is kind of grey. I would probably use it when I am working on my web2.0 at the reference desk
and I need to help a customer then I don't have to tab between windows. That is the only time I would be using it.

GENERATORS

Here is the finely minced ingradient cloud of my favourite recipe from the great cook wordle.
You cn try to figure the ingradients and use them as you choose and develop your own menu cloud.

The best one was Comic Strip where you can create a comic strip from generator blog but the cartoon couldn't be loaded.

I used the comic strip generator to create this cartoon.

Art with colored sand

This picture is all drawn with colored sand. It is the holy chariot in which the idols of gods will be taken around in a procession. This is drawn with colored sand and no other tools used.

The picture was taken during a Rangoli competition in which me and my friend participated as a team. There were 25 teams we were up against. We were given 90 minutes to finish the art. As ours was the most complicated with all the twists and the loops we had to start and hurry like it was the last few minutes.I was a little bit more than nervous and the sand wasn't flowing through my fingers in a clean and steady fashion.Felt like I was scattering sand all over the canvas.I had to calm myself and if only i could say it was a piece of cake.Well eventually i got the steadiness in the flow and i could turn and twist and loop. Finally we made it through with just 3min to the deadline. Now the next part is that the judges were to judge and score each and everyone of the pieces. As we stood watching each one of the judges glared at our pieces. It was wild to imagine how each scored us. Finally we made into the top three. Now all our friends were getting anxious. As the board announced the third place we were so proud that it was not us.Now----------after a long pause which lasted like forever the runners up was announced and we were overjoyed and you might have guessed why.

Technology and advancements

The other day I was watching Discovery channel and the focus was on Dubai.

The program was how Dubai is trying to build what they say the universe by creating these man made islands, several of them like the stars in the sky. I was struck with the use of technology when they showed all these skyscrapers built in different shapes and different patters.

The architects are planning to build a sky scraper in whick each floor rotates at different velocity and completes a rotation in a day and the inhabitants can change the velocity too.I found it so amazing. The most beautiful part is the Palm Island.Dubai in order to increase its beach area is building 3 palm islands which are palm tree shaped. The islands are the Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira. One ot the palms is complete and two others are still in construction. To build this island the ample resource(sand) that Dubai has is not got enough as the sand is too fine, so they had to scrape the Persian Gulf bed for the courser sand and this sand has to be pumped up and deposited to make the island.Surface area of Palm Deira is larger than that of Paris.Began development in 2003 and the construction will be completed over the next 10-15 years.
WOW artificial islands !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All about the 7 and 1/2 learning habits

7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners

Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor others
Habit 7 ½: Play

I think that the "begin with the end in mind" is the easiest

and all the others will have to be experienced in the journey to achieve the end.

I think that as I experience them I will find the hardest as they all seem to be hard in oneway or the other.
